SODOM
line up: Angel Ripper (vocals/bass)
Blackfire (guitar)
Witchhunter (drums)
When Angel Ripper, Witchhunter and singer/guitarplayer Agressor discover their
common interest in bands like Motorhead and Venom, Sodom is founded, begin of
1983. Before an album is recorded, Agressor leaves and is replaced by Grave
Violator. After a concert with Destruction and Iron Angel in December '84, the
band is signed by Steamhammer Records and in 1985 the EP "Sign of Evil" is
released. It sells well, but then Grave Violator is replaced by Destructor, due
to internal troubles. In 1986 the band is again in the studio to record the
debut album "Obsessed by Cruelty". Just before the release, Destructor goes
back to Kreator and first in the autumn of '86 a new guitarplayer is found in
person of Blackfire. They record another EP, "Expurse of Sodomy". This is
already a giant step forward, opposed to the sound-mud recorded previously. In
the mid of '87 the second album is released: "Persecution Mania", produced by
Harris Johns. It's the best selling Sodom album, especcially the hardcore
public is pleased with it. The band tours with Whiplash through Europe and
during this tour, recordings are made for a live album and video. With 70
minutes of thrash, Sodom is the first thrash band that releases a double live
album. Because the cover is too violent, it's found in the shops melted in
black plastic.
